FKC has been a legal Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Cambodia since 2006. Our focus has been on education for children, youth and women to help prepare a better and sustainable future for them. This includes after-school education in language and school basics for children as well as Khmer Traditional Dance and art. For youth we also provide computer training. These free-of-charge services are offered in Siem Reap City, Siem Reap, Cambodia and also in a village outside of Siem Reap City.
FKC has been providing skills in technical drawing and sketching and programming on computer in both 2D and 3D format, as well as teaching the Theories of Architecture.
AutoCAD is a computer-aided design software developed by the company Autodesk (hence the name AutoCAD). It allows you to draw and edit digital 2D and 3D designs more quickly and easily than you could by hand. The files can also be easily saved and stored in the cloud, so they be accessed anywhere at any time.
FKC has been fortunate to have a university student volunteering his time teaching students this valuable employment skill. Vicheka is a fifth-year university student majoring in Urban Architecture. He has also been working for a Siem Reap-based architecture firm for two years. Every Saturday and Sunday Vicheka teaches more than a dozen students for free. He’s giving them very practical, hands-on skills in how to design small and large buildings.
The benefit of gaining these skills could be immediate employment for the graduating students. After one-year of studying at FKC the students will have marketable job skills.
There has been a great need for computer-generated architectural skills in Cambodia because of the vast building boom all over the country. The local Siem Reap university has been offering this program for only two years and it’s very popular and in demand. FKC is confident that as they turn out skilled designers it will be an income-generation business for FKC. The students create their own business under the FKC organization and market their services to clients.
However, for the education to be complete our non-profit organization is in need of monthly supplies, such as basic printing supplies and proper facilities for the students to study. There are some major one-time, long-term equipment needs that are essential to the success of the program.
The students can design their project in 2D mode with the current equipment, but for them or their clients to see their project in 3D mode the design must be “rendered.” This is creating a life-like design for the clients to see exactly what their structure will look like. This process of rendering uses a lot of computer memory and a normal laptop or desktop computer, which the students currently have, can’t do it. They don’t have enough memory. One desktop computer and monitor with adequate capacity for the students to design and render the project for themselves and a customer will cost USD$2,300. However, the program has more than a dozen students enrolled and also a waiting list. One group of students study in the morning and another group of students study in the afternoon. Ideally five computers are required. However, starting with two will be a good beginning. Also, a printer to print the larger-sized plans and drawings will cost USD$580. One printer for the class will be necessary.

FKC has been running this program for two years now. However, we limp along because of a lack of the adequate supplies. We are currently planning a clear, systematic one-year certificate program. This budget will update our equipment and put us in a good position to provide high-quality education for youth.
If you would like to donate to any part or all of this budget, or if you would have a group of friends or associates who would like to join together to sponsor all or part of this program you would be making a difference in the life of Cambodia youth and their families. Change a life, change a family, perhaps change a generation!
FKC is committed to providing education and life-skills to children, youth and women. These skills for the children, youth and women are game-changers for a family. We’re asking you to consider a partial or full donation toward the equipment necessary to make this a successful program. Or, perhaps you know someone in the architectural business who would be willing to make this donation.
Current Needs: 5 updated computers with enough memory to render If you can support part of all of this project, or if you know someone who can assist in supporting all or part of this program, please contact us directly for details.
Thank you so much for being an advocate for the children, youth and women in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia.
