FEEDING PROGRAM

Feeding Program for Children FKC Nokor Krov School

It is rare for a Cambodian child to eat a warm meal for breakfast and often they do not get a warm meal for lunch.  In our endeavors to keep children healthy, strong and have active learning capacity we propose providing a hot breakfast and lunch to the children weekly.  We have approximately 140 children studying at our Nokor Krao School in one day at this time – on the average 70 in the morning and 70 in the afternoon.  The meals will be varied each week and will include in the rotation a combination of rice, various kinds of noodles, meat, vegetables, fruit and bread.  Following are three options:

  1. Two breakfasts and one lunch per week.                      $970 per month

Outcome:  Meals will be prepared for 140 children per time will receive a hot meal to give them strength and energy.  210 meals served per week.

  1. Two breakfasts and two lunches per week.                $1,390 per month

Outcome:  Meals will be prepared for 140 children per time.  The children will receive a hot meal to give them strength and energy.  280 meals served per week.

  1. Three breakfasts and three lunches per week.         $2,040 per month.

Outcome:  420 children will receive a hot meal to give them strength and energy.  420 meals served per week.

FEEDING PROGRAM AT KATSECUM SCHOOL

FKC has two schools.  There are more students at our Katsecum School.  Below you will see the budget and number of students participating.

It is rare for Cambodians to eat a hot breakfast, especially low-income families.  One problem is the income doesn’t provide for it and the other problem is 80% of Cambodian families cook over wood or charcoal fires.  It’s not just a matter of popping something in the microwave or toaster or taking something cold out of the refrigerator, as many Cambodian families also do not have refrigerators.

Therefore, if a Cambodian child has anything for breakfast it’s a piece of bread or potato chips or some other unhealthy food that is readily available and relatively inexpensive along the streets and roads.  The same is true for lunch.

However, it’s well-known that a nutritious breakfast and lunch are an important meals for the day.

You can sponsor nutritious meals for children at our Katsekum School.  The Katsekum School serves a total of 270 children at this time in both morning and afternoon classes.  110 in the morning and 160 in the afternoon.  110 children will be eating breakfast and 160 children will be eating lunch.  Providing a nutritious meal would cost on average USD$1.50 per meal.  Below are options on supporting a feeding program for students.

  1. Two breakfasts and one lunch per week x 4 weeks: USD$2,280

Outcomes:  110 students eating two breakfasts per week = 220 students served x $1.50 = $330 per week x 4 weeks = $1320 per month for breakfasts.  160 students eating lunch one time per week x $1.50 = $240 x 4 weeks = $960.  1,520 meals served in one month.

  1. Two breakfasts and two lunches per week x 4 week:                       USD$3,240

Outcomes:  110 students eating two breakfasts per week = 220 students served x $150 = $330 per week x 4 weeks $1320 per month for breakfasts.  160 students eating lunch two times per week = 160 x 2 = 320 students served x $1.50 per meal = $480 per week x 4 weeks = $1920.  2160 meals served in one month.

  1. Three breakfasts and two lunches per week: USD$3,900

Outcomes:  110 students eating three breakfasts per week = 330 students served x $1.50 = $495 x 4 weeks = $1980.  160 students eating two lunches per week = 160 x 2 = 320 students served x $1.50 per meal = $480 per week x 4 weeks = $1920  2600 meals served in one month.
